Perspectives On The World Christian Movement

What is Perspectives?  A 15 week discipleship course that will change the way you view the world around you. Perspectives will open your eyes to the heart and purpose of God, and how you can take part in His work all over the world - from the urban and suburban streets of South Florida to the rain forests and deserts of distant lands. Perspectives has a 40-year history of turning lives toward the big purpose He has for His church and every one of us.

Each week, you'll explore God's Story through excellent reading, thought-provoking assignments, and outstanding teaching from a different instructor.  The time you invest in Perspectives will be life-changing and bring you in tune and in line with the reason God created you.

Who should take the Perspectives course?  Whether single, married, student, homemaker, senior, lay person or ministry leader, you will go deeper and explore God's heart for the entire world - your neighbors, and every tribe, tongue, and language.  Anyone who wants pursue a life of purpose in concert with the God of purpose and have the fulfillment of learning to serve the Lord with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Through this course, your life will never be the same!

      Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

      Scott Simmons is currently the Director of Professor Relations for Third Millennium Ministries, a ministry designed to provide theological education to church leaders around the world for free. Scott is in charge of adding video content from seminary professors and pastors around the world into our free, online curriculum. Before this, Scott was the minister of missions and spiritual formation at Chapelgate Presbyterian Church, where he oversaw global church planting partnerships and local evangelism and mercy ministries.       The Heights en Español, Richardson TX

      Marco was born and raised in Mexico City. He lived and studied in Argentina for 3 years. Upon returning to CDMX they met Aubrey Murillo and served together as youth pastors, church planters and in Christian education. In 2010 they moved to Texas with their three children, where they were taught and later taught at the Rio Grande Biblical Seminary. In 2014 they moved to Atlanta, GA and planted a church with the North American Mission Board. Subsequently, Marco directed the new Perspectives program in the United States and collaborated in the leadership of Latin America for 6 years. Marco and his family currently live in Dallas, TX where he pastors a Hispanic congregation and seeks to complete his doctoral studies.

      Steven Masood became a follower of Jesus in April 1973 in Karachi, Pakistan from a Muslim background. His testimony is chronicled in Into the Light. Steven earned a PhD from the London School of Theology thru Brunel University, London, on Islam and Christianity. He has spent 30+ years studying and working in Christian-Muslim relations and has taught Islamic Studies and Christian-Muslim relations as a visiting lecturer in Christian institutions in Britain and the Far East. Steven also lectures in conferences and churches on varied subjects including the integrity of Christian and Muslim scriptures, and sharing the Gospel of Jesus. He travels the country speaking at conventions, conferences, retreats, churches, campus ministries, etc. training and speaking on mission themes and partnerships, families and generations, evangelism, discipleship, campus outreach, and his favorite: Bible. He pastored for 35 years, cofounded a nationally successful crisis pregnancy center network, and homeschooled 7 kids with his wife Jenni. They now sport 20+ grandkids.

      Art's first hands-on encounter in missions occurred right after graduating from college where he spent the summer with Wycliffe in Papua New Guinea. After starting the climb up the corporate ladder, Art left the exciting world of paper distribution to finish off his MBA and then made the perfectly illogical but wonderful jump to full-time missions with a short-term missions agency working in South America and Africa. After 14 years as a missions pastor, he currently serves as the Lead Pastor at Feather Sound Community Church in Clearwater, FL and has the best job in the world!

I love recounting what God has done, is doing and anticipating our Creator's exciting next steps. I served as a youth pastor before joining Wycliffe Bible Translators. I love kids, youth, young adults, seniors - all ages. I've worked with them all. Though I trained in linguistics, I have been a Mobilizer with Wycliffe in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Kenya, in support of Bible Translation initiatives and world missions. I have been to over 20 countries involved in various ministries. Currently I'm network recruiter for Wycliffe, finding key people for key roles to keep the Bible translation movement going ahead.

      How Shall They Hear?

      Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

      Canadian-born, Don received Christ at a YFC rally in 1952 and later graduated from Prairie Bible Institute and Wycliffe's SIL course. From 1962-1977 Don and his late wife, Carol Joy [Soderstrom], an RN, served in Irian Jaya (now Papua, Indonesia) among the Sawi, a Stone-Age cannibal-headhunter tribe. After Don designed a Sawi alphabet, he and Carol taught literacy, planted churches, healed the sick and translated the New Testament. More than half the tribe came to Christ. Author of six books, including "Peace Child" and "Eternity in Their Hearts," Don holds an honorary doctorate from Biola University. He represents World Team at missions conferences and in churches, teaches seminars, and lectures for Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. 17 months after his late wife's passing, Don wed Carol Joyce Abraham, who now serves with him in ministry by speaking to women's groups, singing solos, mentoring, and providing hospitality.

      Spend 30 minutes with Cash Godbold and you’ll know that equipping this generation is his highest aspiration! 25 years among Muslim nomads in the Sahara with his wife Ann allowed the Godbolds to produce their peoples’ first indigenous alphabet tract. After they saw a handful of converts they were forced to move to a neighboring country. Then, alongside their son’s family, they invested 22 more years, mainly equipping the sizeable Christian community toward Muslim witness. “Retired” in the USA, they continued teaching these principles to churches and small groups. Nearing 80 years of age, Cash and Ann continue stirring people with their lives of joyful witness.

      The Spontaneous Multiplication of Churches

      Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

      Mike served in the US Coast Guard for over 31 years. While on active duty, he traveled throughout the world and met people from many different cultures. After retiring from the Coast Guard, he felt called to transition from rescuing people at sea to rescuing people spiritually. After short-term missions trips to Nigeria and South Asia, he served on the field in India and Nepal for two years. During this time, he worked with national partners to support church planting movements and provided discipleship training for new believers. He has witnessed the expansion of God's church through spontaneous multiplication of churches and has also been blessed to see lives transformed.

      JC was born to a Cuban immigrant family and grew up learning Spanish and English in a multi-cultural setting. He came to Christ as a teenager, quickly sensing God’s call to work among unreached peoples. JC worked for 32 years in Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and Europe: focused on evangelism and church planting, first directing a language institute in Central Asia, later leading a cross-cultural training program in Spain, preparing Latino and Iberians for service among Muslims. JC earned a MA in Islamic Studies from the University of Edinburgh and DMin from Columbia International University. He has written articles on Islamic literature, and history, ministry to Muslims, and has authored numerous discipleship curricula. He is an accomplished lecturer, teaching world-wide.

      Sundee Simmons currently serves as Associate Director of Perspectives Global. Sundee has been serving the Perspectives program since 1991. She has served as a volunteer coordinator, the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director, East Coast Regional Administrator and the Director of Training for Perspectives USA before joining the Perspectives Global Team. Sundee Simmons is a wife and mother of 3 children, Nathan (1996), Emily (1998) and Julianna (2005). Her husband, Scott, is a ordained PCA Pastor serving Third Millennium Ministries as the Director of Instructor Relations.
