John likes to hike, snowshoe, and cross country ski. John is the author of The Name Quest – explore the names of God to grow in faith and get to know Him better (Morgan James Publishing, 2014).     Gerry Breshears has been professor of theology at Western Seminary since 1980. He served three years with WorldVenture in the Philippines, teaching at Faith Academy and helping start Calvary Baptist Church. He received the Ph.D. from Fuller Seminary. He now teaches overseas about one month per year. In addition to teaching and lecturing at a number of colleges and seminaries around the world, he speaks in many churches. He is co-author of Vintage Jesus, Death by Love, and Vintage Church with Mark Driscoll, in the Relit series from Crossway. Gerry and his wife, Sherry, have two sons, Donn and David, and a daughter, Cyndee, and three wonderful grandgirls.     We were in Crimea, Ukraine (now Russia) from 1995-2010, primarily focused on church planting and leadership development. We were also doing humanitarian aid, helped run a couple medical clinics/outreaches as well as dabbling in micro-enterprises, including building a hotel/training center. Our initial goal was to plant churches among the Crimean Tatar (nominal Muslim group), which proved harder than we expected. However, since we have left (2010) we are now seeing some Crimean Tatar groups started. Since planting the church among the Tatar group was difficult, we instead focused our efforts on establishing Russian Speaking churches throughout Crimea (over 100 at last count). Currently I'm still involved as much possible in missions. I am a professional missions life coach, with a focus on missionaries. I teach several courses as an adjunct including Cultural Anthropology and Intro to Missions at NCU in Eugene. Also I'm serving as a pastor in Klamath Falls Oregon. Those are my work days. The rest of the time, I'm a husband, dad, grandpa and have cows that I tend on our 65+ acre place. Life is never boring and the Lord is always good!

    Ron Billings

    Trinity International University, Corvallis OR

    Ron Billings was born in Everett, Washington and grew up in Oregon and the Philippines, where his parents were missionaries. His grandparents and great-grandparents were also missionaries, with China Inland Mission. Ron’s great-grandfather and great-grandmother were recruited by Hudson Taylor from England and Australia, respectively, and they met and married in China (as did Ron’s grandfather and grandmother, who was from California). Ron’s mother and grandfather were both born in China. Ron’s father was born in Oregon with a Native American heritage, and he met Ron’s mother in college in Seattle. After serving with the military, Ron attended the University of Texas at Austin where he received way too many degrees: a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, an M.B.A., an M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, an M.S. in Computational and Applied Mathematics, and a Ph.D. in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering. Ron first took the Perspectives class while he was an undergraduate in 1986, and as usual it wildly transformed his plans for the future. While in graduate school, he coordinated the Perspectives class in Austin from 1987 to 1992. He also worked for twelve years in the electronics industry as an international standards negotiator and traveled extensively in Asia and Europe. He then started his own software-development company. Dr. Billings has served on the faculty of Concordia University in Austin, Texas; Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta; Oregon State University in Corvallis; the University of Oregon in Eugene; Linn-Benton Community College in Albany, Oregon; and Trinity International University in Deerfield, Illinois (for which he served as the Professor of Record for many Perspectives classes on the West Coast). He lives in Corvallis, Oregon, with his German wife Bina whom he met in the house church they attended. He likes to say that he married half the single women in the church.

    Disciple Making Mentors, Fayetteville AR

    Brian and Louise Hogan have served in mission since 1987. From the Navajo Tribe to Outer Mongolia, their passion has been to see Jesus glorified and lifted up among those who have never known Him. From 1993-1996 their team pioneered a church planting movement in Erdenet (AIR-DUH-NET), Mongolia that continues to grow under fully indigenous leadership to this day. Their Mongolian disciples are now training and sending out their own missionaries to other unreached people groups. The story of the work in Erdenet can be read in Brian’s book: There’s a Sheep in my Bathtub (Asteroidea Books), and in the case study article – “Distant Thunder: Mongols Follow the Khan of Khans” – on page 695 of your Perspectives Reader.

    Ed and Rachel have two teenage sons and live in Arizona. Their ministry, Tsunami Unleashed, focuses on helping bring clarity to believers on how to live purpose "full" lives for Jesus. In addition, they provide a simple path to exponential discipleship, leadership, and church reproduction. Currently, the Lord has them building Tsunami Unleashed. The vision is to see 1 billion people across the global mobilized, equipped and impacted for Jesus. This will leverage the technological infrastructure that exists (everything internet) in an effective way that draws people from the cold medium of the web into hot relationship with believers (in-person) and Jesus. It will require an open-handed approach to all interactions and resources. They don't care who gets credit as long as the work is done giving glory to God through loving obedience to Jesus Christ.     Paul Watson

    Paul grew up on an airplane. Not really, but he felt like it! He split his childhood between Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, and Singapore while his parents, David and Jan Watson, planted churches as career missionaries with the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. Since the day God called Paul into full-time ministry, he has traveled over 200,000 miles training disciple-making teams in the UK, France, Indonesia, Malaysia, Lebanon, Egypt, Germany, and all over the United States. From January 1, 2012, through August 15,2015, Paul served as director of Cityteam’s Rescue and Recovery Center in downtown Portland, OR. Feeding the homeless while helping alcoholics discover sobriety and Jesus taught him incredible lessons about putting feet to faith and loving those who don’t love themselves. Paul left his role at Cityteam and founded Contagious Disciple Making (http://www.contagiousdisciplemaking.com) to focus on catalyzing Disciple Making Movements among the unreached and under-reached peoples in the Cascadia Corridor (Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, British Columbia, and Alaska.) Paul and his family are active members at Westside Community Church in Aloha, OR. Paul and his wife, Christi, lead a growth group that meets in their home on Sunday evenings. Paul is incredibly excited by his pastor’s desire to see 10,000 churches planted in the Pacific Northwest and wants to use his experiences to help his pastor and other ministry leaders plant churches among people who would not normally attend the typical church in North America.
