Perspectives is a 15 week life and learning opportunity that will change the way you view the world around you. In it, you will have your eyes opened to the heart and purpose of God, and how you can take part in His work all over the world, from the urban streets of America to the rain forest and deserts of distant lands. A fantastic array of pastors, theologians, international missiologists and mobilizers will challenge and inspire you with their personal experiences that will open your eyes to see just how big God is, and how much He desires that all might come to know HimWhether you are single, married, a student, a homemaker, a professional or retired, Perspectives will bless and challenge your life and direction.

      Disciple Making Mentors, Fayetteville AR

      Brian and Louise Hogan have served in mission since 1987. From the Navajo Tribe to Outer Mongolia, their passion has been to see Jesus glorified and lifted up among those who have never known Him. From 1993-1996 their team pioneered a church planting movement in Erdenet (AIR-DUH-NET), Mongolia that continues to grow under fully indigenous leadership to this day. Their Mongolian disciples are now training and sending out their own missionaries to other unreached people groups. The story of the work in Erdenet can be read in Brian’s book: There’s a Sheep in my Bathtub (Asteroidea Books), and in the case study article – “Distant Thunder: Mongols Follow the Khan of Khans” – on page 695 of your Perspectives Reader.

      Dan Marshall grew up in San Antonio, obtained his PhD from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and pastored two churches in Texas before being called to the Emirates Baptist Church International in Dubai, UAE where he served for eight years. He is currently the Pastor of Faith Bible Church in Bryan, Texas. He is married to Denise and has four sons and a daughter-in-law. He is passionate about preaching Christ and His Kingdom and longs to see Him exalted throughout the whole earth.

      Your Kingdom Come

      Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

He and his wife coordinated Perspectives and then changed career paths in 2011. He works to help people use their gifts and passions anywhere in the world. He is married to an amazing woman and together they have four beautiful and rambunctious children. He enjoys sharing Jesus' love with the lost, mobilizing and training people to go to the unreached.

      Mandate for the Nations

      Jesus shows great strategic interest in Gentiles; wise strategic focus by initiating a global mission on a few disciples among the Hebrew people. The Great Commission and the ways of God's sending in relational power. Dealing with the ideas of pluralism (all religions the same) and universalism (all persons saved).

      Dr. Greg Despres is Area Director for Church Mobilization Galveston, Houston, and College Station for East-West Ministries International. East-West's vision is to glorify God by multiplying believers in the spiritually darkest areas of the world. We do that by MOBILIZING the body of Christ to EVANGELIZE the lost and EQUIP local believers to MULTIPLY disciples and healthy churches among the unreached peoples and/or in restricted access communities. Greg has formerly served as Lead Pastor of 290 Community Church from 2015-2018, as the Missional Life Pastor at Cypress Bible Church 2008-2014 and Pastor of Student Ministries at Calvary Church from 2000-2008. Immediately prior to coming to Lancaster he was the Pastor of Student Ministries at Cypress Bible Church in Cypress, Texas for six years (1994-1999). He played college football at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina where he received a BS in Business Management (1987-1991). Greg received his Master’s of Divinity at Columbia International University (1991-1994). Greg received his D-Min in Leadership also from Columbia International University (December 2013). He married a sweet girl, Allison, who he met while studying for his M-DIV. They were married December 19, 1993 and have four children Seth (1997), Sean (1998), Sophie (2002) and Sawyer (2004). In December 2011, Greg and Allison rejoiced that God brought them Sienna (2009) a sweet baby girl from China. Both Greg and Allison have a desire to see people get mobilized and encouraged to develop or maintain a world vision and heart for the community just outside the walls of the Church. They believe Acts 1:8 commands the church to be a witness to Jerusalem AND Judea & Samaria AND the uttermost parts, not either or! They have participated and led over 25 short term trips. Allison spent 1.5 years in Japan teaching English as a foreign language. Additionally, Greg has been an assistant football coach at Manheim Township High School in Lancaster, PA and is a certified Cat and Dog Theology conference speaker.

      The first followers of Jesus: obedient in costly, foundational ways. The climactic act of the book of Acts is the freeing of the gospel to be followed by Gentiles without Jewish traditions as a requirement. A foundational act of God which speaks to the situations where the gospel is hindered today. Strategic suffering and apostolic passion.

      Dale Smith has served as lead pastor in local churches for over 30 years along with his wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters. During that time they also served as a church planters in Louisville, Kentucky and Northern Virginia. Currently he is privileged to serve Cy-Fair Christian Church as Executive Pastor. Dale is passionate about mobilizing people from all walks of life to engage people with the gospel of Christ beginning in their neighborhoods and stretching to the ends of the earth. Dale holds two graduate degrees in missions and evangelism. His passion is to lead the local church to identify and engage unreached people groups with the gospel of Christ. He has been blessed to invest his time and energy in the house church movement in East Asia. He has also been blessed to do work in Kenya, Southeast Asia and Mexico.

      Marti Wade has been serving Pioneers since 2007, focusing primarily on projects involving research and writing. Before joining Pioneers she spent time in more than a dozen countries supporting cultural research teams sent to explore unreached communities and mobilize efforts to reach these groups. Since 2004 she has been the editor of Missions Catalyst weekly email newsletter. Marti wrote "Through Her Eyes," a book about the lives of missionary women in the Muslim world and in 2016 completed a Master's thesis on trends and tensions in how agencies train new workers. She began teaching Perspectives, primarily the history lessons, in the late 1990’s.

      Rick Seifert is a businessman by day and a missions mobilizer by night. He has been involved with world missions for the past 30 years. For many years he served as the Missions Chairman of Faith Bible Church in The Woodlands. During the years, his wife, Suzanne and Rick have had the privilege of helping on cross-cultural trips to The Philippines, El Salvador, Dubai, Haiti, Romania, China, Albania, the Gaza Strip, Germany and Turkey. Rick is a member of Faith Bible Church in The Woodlands. He is a graduate of Baylor University.

      Leroy R. Armstrong, Jr. is a native of Kansas City, MO and resides in the Dallas area with his wife Genena and family. Leroy holds degrees from the University of Kansas (B. S. Electrical Engineering) and Dallas Theological Seminary (Th.M.). He is Lead Servant of Proclaiming the Word Ministries (www.proclaimingtheword.com) and Teaching Pastor at First Baptist Church, McKinney, TX (www.firstmckinney.com). Leroy has been teaching in the Perspectives Movement since 2007. Leroy served as a Senior Pastor for 13 years. He was Director of the International Conference on Expository Preaching, sponsored annually by E. K. Bailey Ministries, Inc. for 5 years. He also owns Charis Communications, LLC, an umbrella business focused on acquiring income producing assets.

      How Shall They Hear?

      Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

      Richard is assoc dean and professor at Biola University CA and Faculty at Rice University, Houston, TX. Richard grew up in a Christian family in old Ceylon (now Sri Lanka). He earned his undergraduate degree and a doctorate in biochemical genetics at the Baylor University- Medical Center in Dallas. Richard has served Perspectives Since early 1990s as an instructor, Coordinator, the founding Director of Online PSP Programs and POR. He lives in the Houston, Texas area with his family; wife is an Anesthesiologist and they have two grown children.

      Virgil Lee Amos was born in Oakland, California in 1942 and was reared in Central California. He studied at Moody Bible Institute, Biola University, and Talbot Seminary. Virgil has been involved in missions since 1962, and has been ministering in Latin America, Europe, South Asia, West Asia, and Africa. Virgil is Director of Ambassadors Fellowship, a mission agency. Virgil is married to Martha, and has two children: Norma Allen and Lou Ellen Garcia. Virgil and Martha live in Colorado Springs, CO USA.

      Moved into an low-income neighborhood in Waco, TX, in 1978, and founded Mission Waco, a large urban Christian community development organization with 24 programs and 70 staff. We work among the addicted, unemployed, homeless, sick, illiterate and unchurched. In 1992, Church Under the Bridge was established as an outdoor church meeting under the Interstate 35 and S. 4th Street underpass. As pastor, we now have 300 very diverse attendees. I teach Christian community development and world missions classes at Truett Seminary (Baylor Univ), and have written three books, including "Dead Church Walking," "Trolls and Truth" and "Plunge2Poverty." We continue to work in Haiti, India, and MxCity. Janet and I have been married 40 years and have four children (one deceased).

      Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

      Dr. Jon Hardin is the National Communications Specialist for Frontiers. He has served in full-time missions work for over 25 years. Jon regularly speaks and teaches in churches, conferences, and various training events around the world--he has taught over 25,000 Perspectives students. Jon has a passion for seeing local churches and ordinary Christians step into strategic roles in the global missions enterprise. Jon is an ordained minister, holds a PhD from the VU University in Amsterdam, and did post-graduate studies at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague. He is also a graduate of Denver Seminary. Jon is a CPA and prior to going into full-time ministry he worked for IBM Corporation for nine years.
