This non-denominational course presents the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic aspects of fulfilling the Great Commission. We encourage anyone in the area who is serious about gaining a deeper understanding of God’s ultimate purpose globally and locally to attend this course.
Perspectives seeks to reveal the nature of God's purpose to reconcile all peoples to Himself and bring them into the goodness of His Kingdom. We are called to be a part of HIS purpose. It's about gaining a deeper understanding of who God is, what He's about, and how we are ALL called to be a part of it.
Throughout the 16 weeks, students will learn about God’s nature, His purpose, and how He uses ordinary people like us to bring glory to His name. Over 120,000 people have taken the Perspectives course over the last 40 years. This year there are over 300 classes world-wide with over 9,000 students.

Class time will be held on Tuesdays, once a week and will include lectures from dynamic professors from around the world, interactive learning experiences, and creative demonstrations. The readings include 170 articles from 150 mission scholars and practitioners. Homework assignments are specifically designed to engage every aspect of a Christian’s life and to encourage students to see how to they can utilize their own unique abilities to advance the Kingdom locally, nationally, and internationally.- Biblical Lessons (1-5): The Word of God is revealed with striking clarity as Perspectives illuminates God's unchanging promises as they unfold from Genesis to Revelation.
- Historical Lessons (6-9): Discover your spiritual lineage as you learn Christian history is wrought with the immeasurable power of God as He makes His name known among the nations.
- Cultural Lessons (10-11): The peoples of the world come alive as we eventually see, through Christ Jesus, the expressions of the New Testament church thriving among every nation, tribe, people and language.
- Strategic Lessons (12-15): Find your place in God's story as there are endless opportunities to help complete the Great Commission.

Sean and his wife Meredith have spent the last decade traveling the entire Continental U.S. casting mission vision with Traveling Team. They have a two year old daughter named Haven. Sean graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Communication. He has short term exposure in India and Indonesia. Sean continues to travel nation wide speaking to students and churches. When not speaking he serves alongside The Traveling Team Leadership as the Director of Ministry Advancement. He is working on a Masters Degree from Reformed Theological Seminary. b

Ken Shackelford was in pastoral ministry for 14 years in California and Arkansas. He and his wife, Tanja and their family have lived long term and worked on the Tibetan Plateau in China and also in Albania. In 2018, Ken formed a new media-mobilization organization called Lumenations. In 2021, Ken and his family will be relocating to Tunisia where he will pastor the Sousse International Church. b

Lesson 3
Your Kingdom Come
Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

Wycliffe Bible Translators, Dallas TX
Born in South Korea, Sunny Hong came to the US in 1983. She was employed in the computer software profession and was active in a local church. At that time Sunny was seeking for God’s call as to how she could be involved in missions. Eventually she felt God’s calling to the ministry of Wycliffe Bible translators. She joined Wycliffe in 1994 and worked as a mobilizer for Koreans in the US and Canada for 12 years. She then was sent to the Philippines to work as a mobilization consultant for the Wycliffe Asia and Pacific areas. While in the Philippines, she sensed God redirecting her ministry to missiology/anthropology. She pursued an intercultural studies Ph.D. program at Biola and after completing these studies, started working as a senior intercultural consultant at SIL International which includes teaching at Dallas International University, in Dallas, TX. b

Mandate for the Nations
Jesus shows great strategic interest in Gentiles; wise strategic focus by initiating a global mission on a few disciples among the Hebrew people. The Great Commission and the ways of God's sending in relational power. Dealing with the ideas of pluralism (all religions the same) and universalism (all persons saved).

Pam is currently the Co-Editor of Perspectives 5th Edition and a member of All Nations. She lived in Central Asia for ten years, where she planted churches among three people groups, two of whom are Muslim. She earned an MA and PhD in Linguistics (i.e. Bible Translation) from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has published numerous books and articles in missions. She is most well known as “The Stick Figure Lady” for her popular book “Stick Figures Save the World.” b

The Task Remaining

Todd Ahrend graduated from Northeastern State University, has a Masters from Dallas Theological Seminary and a Doctorate from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary.
He is the founder and international Director of The Traveling Team, a national missions mobilization movement. He and his wife, Jessica, have spent almost two decades traveling both nation-wide and abroad, speaking to thousands of people about involvement in world evangelization. Todd has exposure in over sixty countries and has lived in the Middle East. He is the author of The Abrahamic Revolution and In This Generation. Todd and Jessica have six children: Camden, Brody, Axel, Noble, Quincy and Cruz!

Lesson 10
How Shall They Hear?
Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

Blake Staton, a native of Marion, North Carolina, currently serves as Cultural Consultant and Missiologist for All Nations International. He recently moved back with his family to the United States after serving nearly 18 years with All Nations in Northern Thailand, where both of their children were born and raised. Their first seven years were spent living among the Akha hilltribe learning their language and culture. Their focus shifted in 2007 to a subgroup of the Akha, called the Akeu, an unreached people group for whom Blake helped preserve their culture through pictures, audio recordings and videos. From there, as a cultural consultant with Global Recordings Network (GRN) International, Blake’s experience expanded to four other unreached people groups. b

Cliff is a tinker for Jesus and loves to work on gadgets in his workshop that could be useful in developing countries. He has been a missionary for over 20 years, most recently with Paraclete Mission Group, and is now retired but continues to volunteer with Paraclete and other organizations. He enjoys teaching Christian community development to missionaries, national workers, and Perspectives students as he has opportunity. He lives in NW Arkansas with his wife of 40 years, and has four children and three grandchildren. b

Lesson 13
The Spontaneous Multiplication of Churches
Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

Brian Hogan
Disciple Making Mentors, Fayetteville AR
Brian and Louise Hogan have served in mission since 1987. From the Navajo Tribe to Outer Mongolia, their passion has been to see Jesus glorified and lifted up among those who have never known Him.
From 1993-1996 their team pioneered a church planting movement in Erdenet (AIR-DUH-NET), Mongolia that continues to grow under fully indigenous leadership to this day. Their Mongolian disciples are now training and sending out their own missionaries to other unreached people groups. The story of the work in Erdenet can be read in Brian’s book: There’s a Sheep in my Bathtub (Asteroidea Books), and in the case study article – “Distant Thunder: Mongols Follow the Khan of Khans” – on page 695 of your Perspectives Reader. b
