He studied missiology and global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and global leadership and business at EDHEC Business School in Nice, France. He has been a part of a church planting team in North Africa. He is the US Director for Union, a ministry based in the UK training leaders for the Church throughout the world. He also serves as the Director of Executive Projects for The Lausanne Movement, creating and catalyzing initiatives to accelerate the completion of the Great Commission. Areas of interest/expertise include Reaching Muslims, Church Planting, Global Christianity, Biblical Theology, the Local Church engaging in mission, Global Partnership, Theological Education, Business as Mission, and Mobilization.     Dr. Vic's passion is helping others understand and communicate truth found in the Bible. This passion presently is channeled primarily through two organizations - Dallas Seminary and SIM. At the seminary, Vic serves as Department Chairman and Professor of Pastoral Ministries, teaching courses related to Spiritual Life and Preaching. With SIM, he continues his work in cross-cultural theological education, focusing primarily on developing church leaders for East Africa, especially Ethiopia. He helped establish a Bible College in Addis Ababa in the 1990's, and now, having finished 15 years of full time missionary service, he returns each summer to Ethiopia to teach for a couple of months. Vic has been teaching with Perspectives since 2007, and he finds great personal inspiration in the Story of God's Glory. He anticipates that students in every Perspectives class will be stunned as they are gripped by the Master's mission for His world.

    Matthew Ellison

    Sixteen:Fifteen, Albuquerque NM

    Matthew was rescued by Jesus when he was twenty-three. Shortly after, he found himself in Ghana, West Africa on the first of what would be many ventures to the mission field. That first trip, Matthew says, "ruined me for anything less than a life lived for God's global purpose." In 1993 he began serving at Calvary of Albuquerque, in New Mexico, where he attended and graduated from their School of Ministry. He worked as the missions pastor at Calvary for nine years, developing and launching a strategic church-wide missions ministry. There he founded LifeLine Missions, an international short-term mission ministry that gave thousands across the country the opportunity to experience the mission field firsthand. Through these ministry opportunities he became extensively involved in short and long-term mission endeavors in countries around the world. Now, he devotes his time to serving local churches across the country by coaching them in strategically focused missions and helping them to discover and use their unique gifts in partnership with others to make Christ known among all nations. Matthew is the President and co-founder of Sixteen:Fifteen, and currently lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico with his wife, Renee, and their three children, Matthew, Caleigh, and Landin.

He joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1998 and served as a Bible translator in Southeast Asia. Rebekah graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in International Development and spent 7 years serving with a children's advocacy organization. Now she works for Cafe 1040, a mobilization organization with a mission to lead this emerging generation to tell the story of Jesus where it has never been told. She loves the local church and helps lead her church's missions team with her husband. She often mentors young women and college students as they seek clarity in their involvement in the Great Commission.     Sunny Hong

    Wycliffe Bible Translators, Dallas TX

    Born in South Korea, Sunny Hong came to the US in 1983. She was employed in the computer software profession and was active in a local church. At that time Sunny was seeking for God’s call as to how she could be involved in missions. Eventually she felt God’s calling to the ministry of Wycliffe Bible translators. She joined Wycliffe in 1994 and worked as a mobilizer for Koreans in the US and Canada for 12 years. She then was sent to the Philippines to work as a mobilization consultant for the Wycliffe Asia and Pacific areas. While in the Philippines, she sensed God redirecting her ministry to missiology/anthropology. She pursued an intercultural studies Ph.D. program at Biola and after completing these studies, started working as a senior intercultural consultant at SIL International which includes teaching at Dallas International University, in Dallas, TX.

    KayLyn Hopper has over thirty years of cross cultural communication experience.She was an assistant professor at Dallas Baptist University for seventeen years. She is currently an adjunct professor at DBU where she teaches Understanding the Islamic Faith, Integrating Faith and Culture, Developing the Christian Mind and Strategies for the 21st Global Marketplace. She served as a cross-cultural missionary journalist in the Middle East with the International Mission Board. She served in Beirut, Lebanon as editorial director for Baptist Publications and also as deputy editor for the magazine, Middle East & International Review in Dubai. She lived in Beirut,Damascus, Syria and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She holds a B.S.degree in Journalism from Texas Christian University and an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband Jerry, a retired contractor share their home with Maxwell Edison McHopper the Scottish terrier, and their two cats from Beirut, one is a Sunni the other is a Shi’ite - they all live in in Duncanville, Texas. She is a mosaic artist and is currently working on several commission pieces on the theme of the Middle East.

    Sarah was born and raised in Texas and grew up with aspirations of becoming an architect. After graduation from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s in Environmental Design, she began her career working for a large architecture firm in Dallas, TX. During her 7 years in the world of architecture, she ended up in Zambia on 3 separate short term visits. It was there in Africa, that God changed her heart, future plans and view of the world as He showed her His heart for the nations. She went on to serve for 5 years on a church-planting team in a tiny island nation in the Indian Ocean that is 99.9% Muslim. In that tiny African nation, she served as a Gospel seed sower, language learner, ballet teacher, seamstress, baker, English teacher, henna artist and active neighbor in her wonderful island village. Sarah returned to the States in May 2017 and now serves as a mobilizer with Africa Inland Mission. She loves talking with people about what God is doing in the Muslim world and how they can be part of it!

    Jimmy Dorrell

    Texas Christian Community Development Network, Waco TX

    Jimmy & Janet Dorrell moved into an low-income neighborhood in Waco, TX, in 1978, and founded and is now president emeritus of Mission Waco, a large urban Christian community development organization with 16 programs and 80 staff, with work among the addicted, unemployed, homeless, sick, illiterate and unchurched. In 1992, The Dorrells planted Church Under the Bridge in 1992 as an outdoor church meeting under the Interstate 35 and S. 4th Street underpass (currently meeting at the Magnolia Silos until Summer 2022). As pastor, the church now has 275 very diverse attendees. Dorrell also founded the statewide Texas Christian Community Development Network. As an adjunct professor at Truett Theological Seminary and Baylor, he teaches Christian community development, missions, and community engagement classes. Dorrell has written four books, including "Commonwealth: Transformation through Christian Community Development;" "Dead Church Walking," "Trolls and Truth" and "Plunge2Poverty." The couple, married 43 years, also continue to work in Haiti, India, and MxCity. They have four children (one deceased) and 10 grandchildren.

    Brian and Louise Hogan have served in mission since 1987. From the Navajo Tribe to Outer Mongolia, their passion has been to see Jesus glorified and lifted up among those who have never known Him. From 1993-1996 their team pioneered a church planting movement in Erdenet (AIR-DUH-NET), Mongolia that continues to grow under fully indigenous leadership to this day. Their Mongolian disciples are now training and sending out their own missionaries to other unreached people groups. The story of the work in Erdenet can be read in Brian’s book: There’s a Sheep in my Bathtub (Asteroidea Books), and in the case study article – “Distant Thunder: Mongols Follow the Khan of Khans” – on page 695 of your Perspectives Reader.
