WELCOME TO THE FALL 2019 WINCHESTER PERSPECTIVES CLASS15 WEEK CLASS, September 5 - December 19 THURSDAYS, 6:30-9:30 PM
WHAT IS PERSPECTIVES?Perspectives is a Christian education course designed to help believers learn more about God's heart for all nations and how believers worldwide can play an active role in the Great Commission. WHY PERSPECTIVES?Perspectives helps believers from all walks of life see how they can get threaded into God’s story of redeeming people from every tribe, tongue, and nation to Himself. From Genesis to the prophets, Jesus Christ to the early church, and Constantine to today, you will see how God has been moving, how the global Church has responded, and what the greatest needs in world evangelization remain today. It isn’t a class about missions, but a course on how every believer can be intimately woven into the story of God using His people to be a blessing to all the peoples of the earth. WHO SHOULD TAKE PERSPECTIVES?The short answer is anyone who wants a closer walk with the Lord, who is serious about gaining a deeper understanding of His ultimate purpose in the world. It's for anyone who wants to learn how to strategically invest their lives in seeing God glorified; for anyone who wants to gain insight and direction that will help them to impact their generation. WHAT MAKES PERSPECTIVES UNIQUE?Perspectives has a unique focus. Perspectives has a long and singular track record in the business of opening students' eyes to the Bible, world history, international culture, and God's purpose for it all in a way that no other course can offer. Perspectives is also unique in that a different expert teaches each of the 15 sessions. This allows you to be exposed to people who specialize in the area they cover. ENROLLMENT TYPESKey Reading students attend class, read a few key articles each week, and complete five personal responses (reflections on what they are learning) throughout the semester. Requires 1-2 hours of reading with no written homework assignments. Certificate level earns a certificate of completion from the US Center for World Mission. It is the recommended level (over key reading) for getting the full impact of the course. The instructors are fantastic, but about 90% of the course is in the text, and at this level students are kept accountable to read. This level is required by several mission sending agencies, committees, etc. for candidacy, and is required if someone wants to coordinate Perspectives in the future. The work involves about 3 - 4 hours reading per week, with weekly homework over the reading, and a project due at the end of the class. Undergraduate credit is roughly 4-7 hours reading per week, with weekly homework over the reading, 2 exams, and a paper (10-15 pages) due at the end of the class. As with graduate credit, if students are planning on transferring credit, it is their responsibility to check with their advisor to ascertain their school's policy on transferring credit into their program. Graduate credit is roughly 5-8 hours reading per week, with weekly quizzes on the reading, 2 exams (including several essay questions), and a paper (18-20 pages) due at the end of the class. Depending on the credit-granting school, there may be additional work required. As with undergraduate credit, if students planning on transferring credit, it is their responsibility to check with their advisor to see ascertain their school's policy on transferring credit into their program. If you have taken Perspectives on the World Christian Movement in the past, you can take the course again for free or a very minimal cost. Look for the Alumni - Key Reading option when registering. WHY DOES PERSPECTIVES COST SO MUCH?In reality, the Perspectives course is a bargain. Each session costs a little more than going to a movie, but offers a far better return than mere entertainment. You are getting a glimpse into the eternal purpose of God in a way you will never forget. If you look at it in terms of investment instead of cost, the value of the course will far exceed the money invested. The fees for the class are based on the travel expenses for speakers, administrative costs, costs for class materials, etc. This is necessary to ensure the quality of the program.

Ralph and Maridee met in Nigeria in 1977 where they served as single missionaries. In Nigeria, Ralph taught in a Nigerian Bible college for 3 years and Maridee served as a missionary among the deaf in 1977. There God burdened them for nomadic Muslims without the Gospel. They were married in 1979 with a view to returning to Africa as a team to work among unreached nomadic peoples. They have two adult children, Luke and Sara. They joined SIM in 1983. In the 1980’s and early 1990’s, Ralph and Maridee served the Lord in pioneer evangelism and church planting among the nomadic Muslim people in West Africa with SIM. Illness brought them back to the States in 1991.
They coordinated the candidate ministries at SIM USA’s headquarters in the screening, placement and orientation of long term missionary candidates in the 90s. Maridee coordinated the training of new missionaries for 5 years during that time. Ralph and Maridee have taught missions courses at The Master’s College in California. They served as Southeast Regional Directors for SIM from 2000-2006. In 2006, they returned to West Africa where they were involved in evangelism among Muslims and discipling church leadership in the young church emerging among the nomadic people they served among previously. Maridee also taught in the local missionary kid school.
They have returned to the United States to care for Ralph’s aging parents. They continue to support the nomadic ministry as non-residential missionaries and by representing them to churches and prayer partners in the States. They currently serve with SIM: Ralph in the mobilization of new workers among the unreached with a focus on Muslims and nomadic peoples, Maridee in Member Care and Development.

Bob Hay
SIM USA, Charlotte NC
Born in Nigeria, but raised in New Jersey, Bob Hay is a Third Culture Kid and a third generation SIM missionary. He has been involved in ministry since 1982. He graduated from Bryan College (TN) with a BA in history and minors in Bible and Biblical Greek, and then from Columbia Biblical Seminary (now Columbia International University (SC)) with an M.Div in cross-cultural ministry. Ordained to gospel ministry in 1991, he and his wife, Amy, went to Japan in 1992 where they helped plant a Japanese church in the Tokyo suburbs and he served as pastor while raising their sons together. Since 2003 he has been involved in the recruiting, selecting, equipping, and member care of missionaries serving with SIM. He currently serves as Deputy Director of People Care and Development.

Your Kingdom Come
Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

Rev. Dr. Daniel Ahn is currently an assistant professor of Global Christianity and Theology at Gordon College, MA, USA. He has been a professor of missiology, missionary and ordained pastor (and mechanical engineer) in Central and Southeast Asia, Europe and North America for over twenty years. Prior to teaching at Gordon College, he taught World Christianity at Free University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and served Refugee churches
He holds Master of Divinity in Cross-cultural Studies & Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary in USA, and thereafter PhD in World Christianity at University of Edinburgh in UK. He worked as a research mechanical engineer at R & D center of Hyun-Dai Motor Company for six years with B.S. and M.S. in mechanical engineering. He is married to Dr. Eun Ha Hwang, and two boys, Eugene (14) and Yuchan (11). b

Dave Shive is a 1968 graduate of the Washington Bible College, a 1972 graduate of Capital Bible Seminary with a Th.M. in New Testament Studies, and a 1994 graduate of Baltimore Hebrew University with an M.A. in Biblical Literature. Dave has spent the past 47 years in full time ministry as a pastor, Christian school director, and college professor. He currently serves with Frontier Ventures (formerly the US Center for World Mission) as a missions mobilizer for the northeast region of the United States. Dave lives in Catonsville, MD, with Kathy, his wife of 52 years. Dave and Kathy have three married children, Dan, Mike, and Becky. They are also the proud grandparents of 9 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. b

Jamie and Mimi were born and raised in Christian families in Taiwan. Following primary and secondly school in Taiwan, Jamie returned to the United States for university and seminary studies. In addition to studies, Jamie served in OMF’s Pray For China Fellowship (1982~1984), on staff at the Chinese Bible Church of Greater Boston (1987-1990, 1993-1995); and with Campus Evangelical Fellowship in Taiwan (1990-1993).
In 1996, Jamie and family moved to Hong Kong to serve with the Chinese Ministries (CM) Field of OMF, serving first as Director for Personnel and then Field Director. In 2008, Jamie took on the role of Consulting Director for OMF’s CM and then 2014 as the leader for OMF’s Church-Related Ministries (CRM).

How Shall They Hear?
Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. She lived in Central Asia for ten years, where she planted churches among three people groups, two of whom are Muslim. She earned an MA and PhD in Linguistics (i.e. Bible Translation) from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has published numerous books and articles in missions. She is most well known as “The Stick Figure Lady” for her popular book “Stick Figures Save the World.” b
