Perspectives is a 15 week life and learning opportunity that will change the way you view the world around you. In it, you will have your eyes opened to the heart and purpose of God, and how you can take part in His work all over the world, from the urban streets of America to the rain forest and deserts of distant lands. A fantastic array of pastors, theologians, international missiologists and mobilizers will challenge and inspire you with their personal experiences that will open your eyes to see just how big God is, and how much He desires that all might come to know Him. Whether you are single, married, a student, a homemaker, a professional or retired, Perspectives will bless and challenge your life and direction.

Dr. J. Julian Dangerfield is the Executive Director of Shalom Outreach Inc., a Christian based non-profit organization dedicated to achieving worldwide propagation of the essentials of the historic Christian faith. He proudly serves on the Board of Directors for Wycliffe Bible Translators and mentors pastors and leaders in several nations. He has a Bachelors degree in Business Management and has completed his Master of Arts degree in Leadership, Evangelism and Mobilization at Columbia International University in Columbia, South Carolina. He has also completed his doctoral studies at Virginia Union University with a focus on cross cultural ministry.
In the United States he has organized the mission efforts of over 25 churches, ministries and not for profit organizations, which has resulted in over 54,000 people coming to Christ.
Dr. Dangerfield's perspective is informed by over 29 years of ministry experience and he has traveled to over 40 countries executing strategies that lift humanity while expanding God’s Kingdom. b

Toby Parker is the Area Director for Church Mobilization at East West Ministries International and is located in Austin, TX. He moved into this role in 2016 after spending 16 years in Management at AT&T. He directs the efforts of East West Church MOB to mobilize the Body of Christ to evangelize the lost and equip local believers to multiply disciples and healthy churches among un-reached peoples. At home, he is husband to Amy, father to 2 children, and enjoys helping the people in his community learn to follow Jesus more intimately. b

Carl grew up in Minnesota and has a BA in Bible and Theology from Crown College near Minneapolis. He has a Masters degree in Cross-cultural Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary's School of World Mission. He has served among Latinos since 1987 in various places, beginning in central Los Angeles. He served ten years in Mexico City.
Carl and Rita have been married since 1994. Their son Samuel was born in 2011. Carl is a missionary with Christian Fellowship Union and works with the Perspectives course in Spanish in the U.S. and numerous other countries as an instructor and in instructor development. Carl and his family live in south Texas. b

He joined Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1998 and served as a Bible translator in Southeast Asia. Rebekah lives in north Texas with her husband Chad, and they have two adult children and two grandchildren.
Rebekah graduated from the University of North Texas with a BA in International Development and spent 7 years serving with a children's advocacy organization. Now she works for Cafe 1040, a mobilization organization with a mission to lead this emerging generation to tell the story of Jesus where it has never been told.
She loves the local church and helps lead her church's missions team with her husband.
She often mentors young women and college students as they seek clarity in their involvement in the Great Commission.
She has studied in Italy and has been on short-term missions to Mexico, central China, and southeast Asia. She loves Perspectives and is grateful to be able to share the course with others! b

Steve Hawthorne serves as the director of WayMakers, a prayer and mission mobilization organization in Austin, Texas. He's the author of the widely used prayer guide called Seek God for the City. After co-editing the course and the book Perspectives on the World Christian Movement in 1981, he launched “Joshua Project,” a series of research expeditions among unreached peoples in world class cities. He co-authored, with Graham Kendrick, the book Prayerwalking: Praying On-Site With Insight. He has helped leaders in numerous cities unite and sustain life-giving prayer for entire communities. With humor and seasoned wisdom, he speaks with living passion for the greater glory of Jesus. He says of his ministry, “I like to commit arson of the heart.” b

How Shall They Hear?
Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

Jimmy & Janet Dorrell moved into an low-income neighborhood in Waco, TX, in 1978, and founded and is now president emeritus of Mission Waco, a large urban Christian community development organization with 16 programs and 80 staff, with work among the addicted, unemployed, homeless, sick, illiterate and unchurched. In 1992, The Dorrells planted Church Under the Bridge in 1992 as an outdoor church meeting under the Interstate 35 and S. 4th Street underpass (currently meeting at the Magnolia Silos until Summer 2022). As pastor, the church now has 275 very diverse attendees. Dorrell also founded the statewide Texas Christian Community Development Network. As an adjunct professor at Truett Theological Seminary and Baylor, he teaches Christian community development, missions, and community engagement classes. Dorrell has written four books, including "Commonwealth: Transformation through Christian Community Development;" "Dead Church Walking," "Trolls and Truth" and "Plunge2Poverty." The couple, married 43 years, also continue to work in Haiti, India, and MxCity. They have four children (one deceased) and 10 grandchildren. b
