Jon has a passion for seeing local churches and ordinary Christians step into strategic roles in the global missions enterprise. Jon is an ordained minister, holds a PhD from the VU University in Amsterdam, and did post-graduate studies at the International Baptist Theological Seminary in Prague.     Matthew is a church planter, pastor, mobilizer and trainer. Currently he serves as the pastor of Mission for Elmbrook Church, a role where he is responsible for almost 80 field workers spread across the globe. Before that he and his family lived in Siberia for almost a decade helping start churches and encourage leaders. They returned to the states in 2004 and planted a multi-site church in Washington County, Wisconsin. He also currently serves as the Wisconsin area mobilizer for Perspectives and loves seeing people take steps of involvement in God’s mission. Matthew and Kari were married in 1994 and have four children. Matthew is a hack triathlete, which means he enjoys biking and swimming, and endures running.

    Dr. Manohar James holds a Ph.D. in Intercultural Studies from Asbury Theological Seminary, USA. He is currently serving as a Minister of Intercultural Ministry at High Point Church, Madison, WI. As an adjunct professor, he teaches at Alliance Theological Seminary (NY, USA), The Alliance Institute for Mission (Sydney, Australia), Mission India Theological Seminary (Nagpur, India), and Christian Life College (Madison, WI). Before coming to the US for higher education, he served in India for 15 years as an evangelist, church planter, and seminary professor. While church planting in Himachal Pradesh (India) he suffered severe beatings twice for the sake of preaching the gospel and bringing people to Christ. He is the founder of Serving Alongside International (www.ServingAlongside.org), a non-profit Christian organization in the USA which annually trains about 1200 indigenous pastors in India. He often travels to India to train pastors. Dr. James and his wife Jasmine live in Madison, WI, along with their sons Jason (7 years) and Jonathan (2 years).

    Brooks Simpson is Pastor for Teaching and Preaching at Grace Community Church in North Liberty, IA. Brooks came to faith in Christ as a college student athlete while attending Grace in 1988 and has been on staff since 1998. Brooks’ heart is to see Christ magnified and exalted in the lives of people. The spiritual battle described in Ephesians 6 is real and Brooks’ passion is to equip people to take up the shield of faith and the sword of the Spirit. Too many Christians see this battle as defensive and miss the fact that there is an offensive component as well. Brooks took Perspectives in 2008 and is excited to be a part of the team which equips the saints to offensively take the sword of the Word to the ends of the earth. Brooks has been married to his bride Stacy since 1989. They have two children, Ryan and Katelyn.

    Michael Neterer helped to mobilize 1,800 volunteers to “share Jesus with our Somali neighbors through literacy & friendship” as director of SALT - Somali Adult Literacy Training for 18 years. This ministry continues under Arrive Ministries Minneapolis, but now Michael has joined Bethany Gateways to "take the church where it is not, and help others do the same" because Jesus is worthy to be loved and obeyed in Somalia. Michael and his wife Sara met at Bethany Global University in Minnesota. In 1993, they served an 8-month internship in the former Soviet republics of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. They intended to return to the “field” after completing training, but in 1999 the Lord made it clear that their calling was “across the street.” Michael taught ESL at various Twin Cities institutes until he started SALT at the invitation of a Somali pastor in 2003. In 2010 he published his MA thesis, “Love Our Somali Neighbors,” as the capstone for the Organizational Management graduate degree at Concordia University St. Paul. He finished a second MA in Applied Anthropology from the Wycliffe affiliated Dallas International University focused on the “bible-less” languages of Somalia. Michael and Sara raised three boys to love and serve the Lord in the inner city of Minneapolis where they live, work and go to school.

She lived in Central Asia for ten years, where she planted churches among three people groups, two of whom are Muslim. She earned an MA and PhD in Linguistics (i.e. Bible Translation) from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has published numerous books and articles in missions. She is most well known as “The Stick Figure Lady” for her popular book “Stick Figures Save the World.”

Other exciting missionary opportunities were teaching at a Bible school in Ukraine, as well as leading short term teams of college students into inner city Dallas/Ft. Worth.     How Shall They Hear?

    Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

    Stan and his wife, Valli, served full-time with World Partners since 1978. Valli passed away in November 2021 after a long battle with M.S. Their experience includes 10 years of church planting and curative medical work in Sierra Leone, West Africa among the Yalunka People; 3 years at the US Center as Administrative Director for the Adopt-a-People Clearinghouse; 3 years mobilizing churches to adopt unreached people groups; 2 years training students at Bethel College, Mishawaka, IN; 4 years coaching workers in Africa and the Middle East; and 16 years reaching out to Middle Wast refugees in Kansas City, Missouri. They moved to Maquoketa, Iowa in October 2018 and will begin a new ministry to Middle East students. Stan will continue to serve with World Partners as a traveling evangelist among Muslims and instructor for Perspectives.

    Ginny Feldmann is a graduate of Moody Bible Institute and Illinois State University, earning her B.S.ed (elementary education) in 1980. She earned her M.A. in Intercultural Studies from Wheaton Graduate School in 1995. She was raised by missionary parents in Pakistan and returned to serve with SIM (Serving In Mission) for 18 years, mentoring young girls in Bible teaching and evangelism to nomads. She also conducted Bible studies with believing women, neighborhood visitation and children’s evangelistic Bible classes, often using “Javed”, her ventriloquist dummy. She served on SIM’s Pakistan Area Council for several years. Since 2003 she has been reaching out to South Asians in the Chicago area while mentoring local believers to do so, as part of SIM’s Chicago Culture ConneXions team.

    Al and his wife Carrie were married in 1985 and have three daughters, two granddaughters and three step grandchildren. His hobbies include guns and motorcycles. Al is a co-founder, and currently serves as lead pastor, of The Pointe Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. The church was formed in 2000 as an outreach designed to reach the unchurched. As trailblazers, the church has a large percentage of its members who were either unchurched or under-churched prior to their joining The Pointe. Al is also involved in two mission projects, a new work in Belize and a 12-year-old project in Honduras called The City of Refuge. The City includes an orphanage, school, medical center, beauty shop, restaurant, hotel, grocery store, clothing store, and much more. The City is making excellent progress towards becoming self-sustaining and has become the area’s largest employer. Al grew up on a farm and has extensive farm experience of over 20 years. He has also owned and managed an auto body repair shop and owned Faithworks Christian Bookstore, which he and his wife grew and then successfully divested. He is a seasoned real estate investor and also serves on the board of directors at Halydean Corporation.

    Brian and Louise Hogan have served in mission since 1987. From the Navajo Tribe to Outer Mongolia, their passion has been to see Jesus glorified and lifted up among those who have never known Him. From 1993-1996 their team pioneered a church planting movement in Erdenet (AIR-DUH-NET), Mongolia that continues to grow under fully indigenous leadership to this day. Their Mongolian disciples are now training and sending out their own missionaries to other unreached people groups. The story of the work in Erdenet can be read in Brian’s book: There’s a Sheep in my Bathtub (Asteroidea Books), and in the case study article – “Distant Thunder: Mongols Follow the Khan of Khans” – on page 695 of your Perspectives Reader.
