is a journey deep into the purposes and passion of God. Fifteen
instructors with decades of field ministry experience will give us
living access to the earth-shaking and life-changing realities we'll be seeing. Whether you've been hearing for years from friends that you just have
to take this class, or if you just learned about Perspectives, the Coordinating
Team is thrilled to invite you to explore and "get threaded" into God's amazing tapestry.
Monday evenings, 6:30 - 9:20 PM, beginning January 20, 2014. Visit us one Monday evening to get a taste of Perspectives. Options include College or Seminary credit, "Certificate", "Key Readings", ACSI Continuing Ed Units(7), or just "First Night Free" (if you're undecided).

Leonard N. (Len) Bartlotti, Ph.D. is a well-known speaker, author, mobilizer, educator and strategy consultant to faith-based organizations in the Middle East/Asia. He and his wife Debi served 14 years among one of the world's largest Muslim people groups. Dr. Len is a passionate communicator who combines a love for students with deep empathy and understanding of other cultures. He and his wife Debi, a nurse midwife and licensed Spiritual Director, have been married for over 45 years, and have three married adult children, and six grandsons, and live in Springfield, Missouri. b

With a doctorate in the economics of poor countries, Coty worked with developing country governments in Africa and Asia for two decades. During the 1990's God called him out of economics into a full-time preaching and teaching ministry. The Pinckneys served as missionaries in Cameroon during 2001/02. Coty returned to the Charlotte area in 2002 to plant Desiring God Community Church. Coty also partnered with David Voth of Steele Creek Church to bring the Perspectives course back to Charlotte after a long hiatus. In addition to his pastoral work and his service with Perspectives Charlotte, Coty is involved in training and equipping pastors in India, Indonesia, and elsewhere. Coty and his wife Beth have six children and nine grandchildren, and live in Harrisburg, NC. b

Your Kingdom Come
Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

Lesson 4
Mandate for the Nations

Ed Smither is Professor of Intercultural Studies, History of Global Christianity and Dean of the College of Intercultural Studies at Columbia International University. Ed spent 14 years in intercultural ministry in France, North Africa, and the USA. He has authored, edited, or translated 11 books, including Christian Mission: A Concise Global History, Mission as Hospitality, and Mission in the Early Church. Ed is married to Shawn and they have 3 kids (Brennan, Emma, and Eve). Ed enjoys biking the backroads of Columbia, following Clemson football, and listening to modern rock and old hymns. b

The 1st due to investing 9 years with Bengali speakers (the 6th largest living language). Stephen takes great delight in learning the passions, gifts, and callings of people, and helping them to connect with Great Commission causes. He has been a member of Wycliffe Bible Translators since 2011, where he serves as a missionary recruiter for the southeastern region. Prior to joining Wycliffe, Stephen worked bivocationally as a church planting strategist and Human Resources professional. He has a Master of Arts in Global Leadership from Fuller Theological Seminary.

During his IT career at Bell South, Clarke was captured by the Biblical vision of God’s glory on display everywhere. He joined Operation Mobilization, designing and implementing a large HR application, then as assistant to OM’s founder, George Verwer. After teaching Perspectives several times to OM’s staff while living in the UK, Clarke built and runs a retreat house in Western NC. From Banner Elk, Clarke leads a small mission agency, equips others for ministry, and recently launched NewVo, a business as mission (BAM) initiative. Clarke thrives teaching biblical principles to church leaders, hiking, and thru seasons of prayer with close friends. b

Born and raised in Pakistan, Momo came to the US to attend college. After undergraduate studies in Architecture and Business Administration, and 3 years of campus ministry, Momo earned graduate degrees in Cross Cultural Studies and in Divinity. Momo and his wife and 4 children, then lived 7 years among a Muslim tribe in West Africa, until displaced by Liberia’s civil war. They then worked 6 years in Karachi. In addition to his full-time job advancing the work of his denomination’s overseas ministries, Momo connects Christians with the many Muslims that God has brought to North America (+15,000 in Greater Charlotte alone). In addition, Momo also gives long term leadership to Perspectives Charlotte. b

Lesson 10
How Shall They Hear?
Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

Joanne translated the Bible for the Balangao people of the Philippines, completing the New Testament in 1982. With Patricia Purvis, she wrote a book of the resulting people movement in "And the Word Came with Power." Now, Joanne helps others find the doorway into cultures with which they work. With colleague Amy West, she teaches Worldview and Cultural Orientation Workshops and Seminars, on Ethnotheology, and Spiritual Conflict Seminars for Wycliffe colleagues and others. Joanne continues to consults on the Balango's translation of the Old Testament. b

Lesson 11
Building Bridges of Love
The incarnation as a model of missionary humility. How missionaries can enter appropriate roles in order to form relationships of trust and respect to develop a sense of belonging, and thus to communicate with credibility for understanding. Explore the intricacy of identification in another culture. Explore the even greater complexity of presenting identity with integrity in a globalized, terrorized, pluralized world. Recognizing the dynamics of social structure in order to initiate growing movements of ongoing communication throughout the society.

Dennis and his wife Nancy served as linguists and Bible translators among the 20,000 Duna people of Papua New Guinea. After devising an alphabet for this previously unwritten language they produced primers and readers, teaching many to read their own language. They then translated the first portions of God's Word into the Duna language. Several thousand Duna came to faith in Christ and today there are many churches among these people. b

Lesson 8
Pioneers of the World Christian Movement
Today we anchor the race by continuing what others have begun. It's a day of finishing. All the more reason to learn the wisdom and the heart of ordinary people who did extraordinary things in earlier generations. Reading the writings of William Carey and other leaders to discern what these people have left to us. Exploring the contribution of women in missions throughout the centuries.

In 2009 my wife and I completed a sabbatical journey to South Africa & the British Isles to study the famous lives of John Bunyan, William Carey, & David Livingstone . . . seeing all sorts of places from Capetown to Hadrian's Wall!
This year we will have completed 25 years of service at our current church and 41 years altogether. And we are the delighted grandparents of 8 grandchildren, ranging in age from 10 years to 6 months. b

The Spontaneous Multiplication of Churches
Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

Karen and her husband Gary, served for 17 years in Eastern Europe. In 2010 they returned to the states and served for more than a decade at the Center for Intercultural Training. Karen is burdened to see cross-cultural workers thrive in life and ministry. To that end, she now shepherds missionaries around the world from their base in Southern California.
Karen married Gary in 1996, and moved from Poland to Bulgaria, to teach Theological English, preparing Eastern Europeans for ministry.
In 2001 the Griffiths moved to Scotland. Karen served in women’s ministries, teacher training and leadership development. Returning to Bulgaria in 2005, Karen taught English to Bulgarians and coached missionaries through language and cultural adaptation. Now, she helps missionaries worldwide to thrive!
