Welcome to the Indy Perspectives Course! Perspectives is a fifteen week course designed around four vantage points or “perspectives” — Biblical, Historical, Cultural and Strategic. Each one highlights different aspects of God’s global purpose. This class has inspired the imagination of over 10,000 students each year, helping them understand how God has been carrying out his missional plan since the beginning of the world. A class is starting in the Fall Semester, on August 11, hosted by Eagle Church in the Whitestown/Zionsville area (Northwest of Indianapolis, right off of I-65; 5801 South Main Street (650 East), Whitestown IN 46075). Lesson 3
Your Kingdom Come
Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

Dave Shive is a 1968 graduate of the Washington Bible College, a 1972 graduate of Capital Bible Seminary with a Th.M. in New Testament Studies, and a 1994 graduate of Baltimore Hebrew University with an M.A. in Biblical Literature. Dave has spent the past 47 years in full time ministry as a pastor, Christian school director, and college professor. He currently serves with Frontier Ventures (formerly the US Center for World Mission) as a missions mobilizer for the northeast region of the United States. Dave lives in Catonsville, MD, with Kathy, his wife of 52 years. Dave and Kathy have three married children, Dan, Mike, and Becky. They are also the proud grandparents of 9 grandsons and 2 granddaughters. b

And Is now the Professor of Intercultural Studies at Johnson University, Florida Her passion is in the area of urban mission and her dissertation was on the history of the Christian Churches/Churches of Christ in the cities of North America. She enjoys research in other areas as well including: women in missions, postmodernism and culture, mission history, and mission biographies. Dr. Howells Douglas served as the associate editor of New Urban World Journal, and co-editor of a new book series entitled Urban Missiology in the 21st Century, and the urban editor of a new Biblical commentary series entitled, The Polis Commentary. Her hobbies include all types of music, reading (her favorite authors being Annie Dillard, Anne Lamott, Stanley Hauerwas, Ruth Tucker, and Eugene Peterson), a founding member of International Society of Urban Missiology and member of Evangelicals for Social Action and the American Society of Missiology, involvement in Habitat for Humanity, as well as traveling and visiting several urban partners all over the world, and learning continually from her 15 year old son, Truman.

How Shall They Hear?
Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

Brian and Louise Hogan have served in mission since 1987. From the Navajo Tribe to Outer Mongolia, their passion has been to see Jesus glorified and lifted up among those who have never known Him.
From 1993-1996 their team pioneered a church planting movement in Erdenet (AIR-DUH-NET), Mongolia that continues to grow under fully indigenous leadership to this day. Their Mongolian disciples are now training and sending out their own missionaries to other unreached people groups. The story of the work in Erdenet can be read in Brian’s book: There’s a Sheep in my Bathtub (Asteroidea Books), and in the case study article – “Distant Thunder: Mongols Follow the Khan of Khans” – on page 695 of your Perspectives Reader. b
