    Canadian-born, Don received Christ at a YFC rally in 1952 and later graduated from Prairie Bible Institute and Wycliffe's SIL course. From 1962-1977 Don and his late wife, Carol Joy [Soderstrom], an RN, served in Irian Jaya (now Papua, Indonesia) among the Sawi, a Stone-Age cannibal-headhunter tribe. After Don designed a Sawi alphabet, he and Carol taught literacy, planted churches, healed the sick and translated the New Testament. More than half the tribe came to Christ. Author of six books, including "Peace Child" and "Eternity in Their Hearts," Don holds an honorary doctorate from Biola University. He represents World Team at missions conferences and in churches, teaches seminars, and lectures for Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. 17 months after his late wife's passing, Don wed Carol Joyce Abraham, who now serves with him in ministry by speaking to women's groups, singing solos, mentoring, and providing hospitality.

He and his wife are currently planting a church in Stillwater, OK. They hope to plant a church that would intentionally develop and send many church planting teams out among unreached and unengaged people groups. If there was one verse that drives what he does, it would Habakkuk 2:14 which states, "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as water cover the seas." He studied missiology and global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and global leadership and business at EDHEC Business School in Nice, France. He has been a part of a church planting team in North Africa. He is the US Director for Union, a ministry based in the UK training leaders for the Church throughout the world. He also serves as the Director of Executive Projects for The Lausanne Movement, creating and catalyzing initiatives to accelerate the completion of the Great Commission. Areas of interest/expertise include Reaching Muslims, Church Planting, Global Christianity, Biblical Theology, the Local Church engaging in mission, Global Partnership, Theological Education, Business as Mission, and Mobilization.     How Shall They Hear?

    Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

    Joshua grew up in Honolulu Hawaii, the cultural melting pot of the pacific. He was educated at California Baptist University (where he took perspectives under Jeff Lewis), before finishing up a seminary degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Joshua spent the following 13 years serving and leading the Missions Ministry for Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. He was responsible for over 50 trips sent out by the church nationally and internationally. In addition to mobilizing short-term, he has been involved in the development of many long-term overseas strategies including the development of a Bible Institute along the Amazon River, training indigenous leaders theologically to plant/shepherd village churches and vocationally to provide for their families through government co-ops. Joshua has also served on the advisory council of a number of different non-profits including Seed Effect, an evangelical Micro-Finance Ministry in South Sudan. Currently he serves as the Director of Church Relationships for Launch Global - helping local churches recruit, train, and send Long Term Missionaries to the unreached peoples of the world. Joshua and his wife Maria live in Lynchburg, Va.

    KayLyn Hopper has over thirty years of cross cultural communication experience.She was an assistant professor at Dallas Baptist University for seventeen years. She is currently an adjunct professor at DBU where she teaches Understanding the Islamic Faith, Integrating Faith and Culture, Developing the Christian Mind and Strategies for the 21st Global Marketplace. She served as a cross-cultural missionary journalist in the Middle East with the International Mission Board. She served in Beirut, Lebanon as editorial director for Baptist Publications and also as deputy editor for the magazine, Middle East & International Review in Dubai. She lived in Beirut,Damascus, Syria and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She holds a B.S.degree in Journalism from Texas Christian University and an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband Jerry, a retired contractor share their home with Maxwell Edison McHopper the Scottish terrier, and their two cats from Beirut, one is a Sunni the other is a Shi’ite - they all live in in Duncanville, Texas. She is a mosaic artist and is currently working on several commission pieces on the theme of the Middle East.

    Jimmy Dorrell

    Texas Christian Community Development Network, Waco TX

    Jimmy & Janet Dorrell moved into an low-income neighborhood in Waco, TX, in 1978, and founded and is now president emeritus of Mission Waco, a large urban Christian community development organization with 16 programs and 80 staff, with work among the addicted, unemployed, homeless, sick, illiterate and unchurched. In 1992, The Dorrells planted Church Under the Bridge in 1992 as an outdoor church meeting under the Interstate 35 and S. 4th Street underpass (currently meeting at the Magnolia Silos until Summer 2022). As pastor, the church now has 275 very diverse attendees. Dorrell also founded the statewide Texas Christian Community Development Network. As an adjunct professor at Truett Theological Seminary and Baylor, he teaches Christian community development, missions, and community engagement classes. Dorrell has written four books, including "Commonwealth: Transformation through Christian Community Development;" "Dead Church Walking," "Trolls and Truth" and "Plunge2Poverty." The couple, married 43 years, also continue to work in Haiti, India, and MxCity. They have four children (one deceased) and 10 grandchildren.
