 The Perspectives course, typically taught over 15 weekly sessions,  intensely packaged in 7 days for pastors, ministry staffs, missionaries, and students.  Join with other community leaders and students as we deeply consider the mission of God and the role of the church in the world today.

 Perspectives is a life and learning opportunity that will change the way you view the world around you. In it, you will have your eyes opened to the heart and purpose of God, and how you can take part in His work all over the world, from the urban streets of America to the rain forest and deserts of distant lands. A fantastic array of pastors, theologians, international missiologists and mobilizers will challenge and inspire you with their personal experiences that will open your eyes to see just how big God is, and how much He desires that all might come to know Him. Whether you are single, married, a student, a homemaker, a professional or retired, Perspectives will bless and challenge your life and direction.

How does the Summer Intensive version work?

· Class sessions are taught by a variety of instructors representing different backgrounds, denominations, education and experience; including pastors, missionaries, professors, church planters, ministry leaders & mobilizers!

· Lectures are complemented by discussions, cross-cultural activities, daily readings and opportunities to discern implications for local congregations.

· Certificate, Undergraduate, & Graduate study levels available.

· We strongly encourage you read and complete lessons 1-5 prior to the start of class.  Reading materials will be emailed to you after you enroll, or you can purchase the e-book version on Amazon.com. (Books will be issued at check-in)

· Completion of key readings and personal responses during the Intensive.

· Completion of all readings, reviews & projects is required by Oct. 15th for class completion.

      Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

      Mandate for the Nations

      Jesus shows great strategic interest in Gentiles; wise strategic focus by initiating a global mission on a few disciples among the Hebrew people. The Great Commission and the ways of God's sending in relational power. Dealing with the ideas of pluralism (all religions the same) and universalism (all persons saved).

      Canadian-born, Don received Christ at a YFC rally in 1952 and later graduated from Prairie Bible Institute and Wycliffe's SIL course. From 1962-1977 Don and his late wife, Carol Joy [Soderstrom], an RN, served in Irian Jaya (now Papua, Indonesia) among the Sawi, a Stone-Age cannibal-headhunter tribe. After Don designed a Sawi alphabet, he and Carol taught literacy, planted churches, healed the sick and translated the New Testament. More than half the tribe came to Christ. Author of six books, including "Peace Child" and "Eternity in Their Hearts," Don holds an honorary doctorate from Biola University. He represents World Team at missions conferences and in churches, teaches seminars, and lectures for Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. 17 months after his late wife's passing, Don wed Carol Joyce Abraham, who now serves with him in ministry by speaking to women's groups, singing solos, mentoring, and providing hospitality.

      Unleashing the Gospel

      The first followers of Jesus: obedient in costly, foundational ways. The climactic act of the book of Acts is the freeing of the gospel to be followed by Gentiles without Jewish traditions as a requirement. A foundational act of God which speaks to the situations where the gospel is hindered today. Strategic suffering and apostolic passion.

      Bryan has served in mission mobilization for over 10 years with ministries such as The Traveling Team, Perspectives on the World Christian Movement, Frontiers, Avant and more recently as missions pastor at Redeemer Church in Lubbock, TX. He and his wife are currently planting a church in Stillwater, OK. They hope to plant a church that would intentionally develop and send many church planting teams out among unreached and unengaged people groups. If there was one verse that drives what he does, it would Habakkuk 2:14 which states, "For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as water cover the seas." He is married to Abbey and has four kids - Judson, Lydia, Isobel and Hazel.

      David is an avid storyteller. As a missions mobilizer he uses story to help people understand God’s global purpose and discover their place in that plan. David grew up as a missionary kid in Panama. A graduate of Texas A&M University, David currently works for his alma mater. He also serves as a volunteer with a campus ministry.       Today we anchor the race by continuing what others have begun. It's a day of finishing. All the more reason to learn the wisdom and the heart of ordinary people who did extraordinary things in earlier generations. Reading the writings of William Carey and other leaders to discern what these people have left to us. Exploring the contribution of women in missions throughout the centuries.

The basic minimal missiological achievement in every people group opens the way for working with God against every kind of evil so that the gospel of the kingdom is declared and displayed with clarity and power.       Justin is passionate about doing whatever he can to see the Great Commission fulfilled. He mobilized with The Traveling Team for 5 years. He studied missiology and global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and global leadership and business at EDHEC Business School in Nice, France. He has been a part of a church planting team in North Africa. He is the US Director for Union, a ministry based in the UK training leaders for the Church throughout the world. He also serves as the Director of Executive Projects for The Lausanne Movement, creating and catalyzing initiatives to accelerate the completion of the Great Commission. Areas of interest/expertise include Reaching Muslims, Church Planting, Global Christianity, Biblical Theology, the Local Church engaging in mission, Global Partnership, Theological Education, Business as Mission, and Mobilization. He is husband of Megan and papa of Henry and Evie.

    • Lesson 10

      How Shall They Hear?

      Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

      Joshua grew up in Honolulu Hawaii, the cultural melting pot of the pacific. He was educated at California Baptist University (where he took perspectives under Jeff Lewis), before finishing up a seminary degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth, TX. Joshua spent the following 13 years serving and leading the Missions Ministry for Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. He was responsible for over 50 trips sent out by the church nationally and internationally. In addition to mobilizing short-term, he has been involved in the development of many long-term overseas strategies including the development of a Bible Institute along the Amazon River, training indigenous leaders theologically to plant/shepherd village churches and vocationally to provide for their families through government co-ops. Joshua has also served on the advisory council of a number of different non-profits including Seed Effect, an evangelical Micro-Finance Ministry in South Sudan. Currently he serves as the Director of Church Relationships for Launch Global - helping local churches recruit, train, and send Long Term Missionaries to the unreached peoples of the world. Joshua and his wife Maria live in Lynchburg, Va.

      KayLyn Hopper has over thirty years of cross cultural communication experience.She was an assistant professor at Dallas Baptist University for seventeen years. She is currently an adjunct professor at DBU where she teaches Understanding the Islamic Faith, Integrating Faith and Culture, Developing the Christian Mind and Strategies for the 21st Global Marketplace. She served as a cross-cultural missionary journalist in the Middle East with the International Mission Board. She served in Beirut, Lebanon as editorial director for Baptist Publications and also as deputy editor for the magazine, Middle East & International Review in Dubai. She lived in Beirut,Damascus, Syria and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. She holds a B.S.degree in Journalism from Texas Christian University and an M.Div. from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. She and her husband Jerry, a retired contractor share their home with Maxwell Edison McHopper the Scottish terrier, and their two cats from Beirut, one is a Sunni the other is a Shi’ite - they all live in in Duncanville, Texas. She is a mosaic artist and is currently working on several commission pieces on the theme of the Middle East.

      Texas Christian Community Development Network, Waco TX

      Jimmy & Janet Dorrell moved into an low-income neighborhood in Waco, TX, in 1978, and founded and is now president emeritus of Mission Waco, a large urban Christian community development organization with 16 programs and 80 staff, with work among the addicted, unemployed, homeless, sick, illiterate and unchurched. In 1992, The Dorrells planted Church Under the Bridge in 1992 as an outdoor church meeting under the Interstate 35 and S. 4th Street underpass (currently meeting at the Magnolia Silos until Summer 2022). As pastor, the church now has 275 very diverse attendees. Dorrell also founded the statewide Texas Christian Community Development Network. As an adjunct professor at Truett Theological Seminary and Baylor, he teaches Christian community development, missions, and community engagement classes. Dorrell has written four books, including "Commonwealth: Transformation through Christian Community Development;" "Dead Church Walking," "Trolls and Truth" and "Plunge2Poverty." The couple, married 43 years, also continue to work in Haiti, India, and MxCity. They have four children (one deceased) and 10 grandchildren.

      Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

      After spending 10 years as a professional firefighter/EMT / Fire Marshal in Fort Worth, TX, David left the fire service for full-time vocational ministry. He currently serves as the Director of Mobilization & Operations at Sixteen:Fifteen. David has led more than a dozen trips to Central America doing evangelism, medical and orphan care, firefighter training and church planting. He has helped his church and others develop missionary training and equipping programs and he has spoken to thousands of students and adults across the US and Central America about God’s global mission with a great passion to mobilize the body of Christ to strategic engagement in God’s global purpose.
