Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is a 15 week discipleship course that will change the way you view the world around you. Perspectives will open your eyes to the heart and purpose of God, and how you can find your place in His work all over the world, from here in America to distant nations. This unique experience will give you a new and deeper understanding of God's story and His desire for you to be a part of it.


Who should take Perspectives?

Anyone and everyone who wants to better know the heart of God and His work in His world! Whether you are single, married, a student, a homemaker, a minister, a professional or retired, and whatever your current involvement in the church or its ministries, you will explore God's heart to restore His Glory among All Nations, ransoming His people from every tribe, language and culture!  (Rev 5:9) 

(It is recommended for high school seniors and up)


What will I learn?

You will be challenged to see the world through God's eyes in 4 different perspectives:


Biblical- God's plan and purpose revealed in Scripture

Historical - How God has revealed himself from the begining

Cultural - Overcome cultural barriers to introduce Jesus

Strategic - Your gifts & passions can be used to fulfill God's plan

 


Perspectives is a community effort. The course materials represents a diversity of writers. The speakers will from local as well as from national/international ministry backgrounds.


Who are the instructors?

We will have a host of dynamic & diverse instructors sharing from their knowledge and experience (ministry founders, pastors, lay leaders, missionaries, equippers, senders & go-ers).


What is the time investment?

Our class meets for 3 hours one night a week. The Perspectives course offers 3 levels:


Key Reading Level:  This level requires about 1 to 2 hours of reading per week with no written homework.  There are five "Personal Reflections" assigned during the course which would require approximately an hour each to complete. 


Certificate Level:  This level is recommended for those who seek to gain a deeper understanding of the topics.  It involves weekly homework assignments, five "Personal Reflections", and one research project due at the end of the course.  This level requires about 4 hours of work per week.


Credit Level: This level can be taken for undergraduate or post graduate credit.  This involves a mid-term and final exam plus an integrative project in addition to regular weekly assignments. This level requires about 6-8 hours of work per week.  The credit will come through Columbia International University.

      Your Kingdom Come

      Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

      Jesus shows great strategic interest in Gentiles; wise strategic focus by initiating a global mission on a few disciples among the Hebrew people. The Great Commission and the ways of God's sending in relational power. Dealing with the ideas of pluralism (all religions the same) and universalism (all persons saved).

      Teaching in and promoting “Perspectives on the World Christian Movement” is part of Cody’s passion and ministry focus with Presbyterian Frontier Fellowship (PFF). Cody says, “Perspectives is the best instrument I know to mobilize a local church to become a missional congregation”. Before joining the PFF, Cody interned with Campus Crusade in Atlanta’s inner city, was a Volunteer in Mission in Korea, served two church pastorates, directed the Presbyterian Center for Mission Studies, served as a PCUSA missionary in Bangladesh, and was Missionary in Residence in New Harmony Presbytery (SC). Cody is PFF’s resource person for Frontier Mission in South Asia, India (especially the state of Bihar), Nepal and Bangladesh.

      I love God and I love His Story. I love to inform and inspire His people get involved in His mission. I'm known as "The Storyteller". I love recounting what God has done, is doing and anticipating our Creator's exciting next steps. I served as a youth pastor before joining Wycliffe Bible Translators. I love kids, youth, young adults, seniors - all ages. I've worked with them all. Though I trained in linguistics, I have been a Mobilizer with Wycliffe in the US, Australia, New Zealand and Kenya, in support of Bible Translation initiatives and world missions. I have been to over 20 countries involved in various ministries. Currently I'm network recruiter for Wycliffe, finding key people for key roles to keep the Bible translation movement going ahead.

      Paul grew up in the Bolivian Amazon, assisting his father search for tribes never before reached. After serving as a missionary with New Tribes with his wife, Robin, Paul founded Amazon Focus. Amazon Focus’ vision is to empower and equip indigenous tribes of the Amazon region toward responsibility for their own long term spiritual, physical and survival needs. Paul also is the President of ALTECO, a consortium of +100 western and tribal mission groups who serve the “Green Window”. Paul is a graduate of Southern Wesleyan University.

      How Shall They Hear?

      Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

      Marti has been teaching Perspectives since the 1990’s and serving with Pioneers (Pioneers.org) since 2007, where she is the editorial director for the Marketing Team. Previously she was part of a ministry that sent teams to conduct ethnographic research to support strategic prayer and ministry efforts in unreached cities. She is the editor and publisher of the weekly Missions Catalyst newsletter (MissionsCatalyst.net) and serves on the board for MissionWorks (MissionWorks.global).

      The Spontaneous Multiplication of Churches

      Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

      Trevor and his wife, Katie and their three children live in Columbia, South Carolina where Trevor serves as the Managing Director of the Zwemer Center for Muslim Studies. Prior to coming to the Zwemer Center Trevor and his wife served with Youth With a Mission for seven years. During their missionary service, they worked in a 100% Muslim country in South Asia. He is also a PhD candidate and his research interest is in Muslim Christian relations.

      Ken Katayama, born in Curitiba, Brazil, joined Crossover Global in 1999. After serving at the Crossover Global base in Brazil for six years he began working in various leadership positions at the Crossover Global base in the USA. In 2020 he became the President and CEO of Crossover Global. Ken holds a Bible certificate from Word of Life Biblical Seminary in Brazil; a B.A. in Bible and a Master of Arts in Muslim Studies from Columbia International University in Columbia, USA. He served six years on the board of Missio Nexus (the North American Missions Association) and he served for five years on the board of COMHINA (COMIBAM USA). Currently he serves as a Deputy Leader for the World Evangelical Alliance Mission Commission and as a Perspectives instructor teaching various lessons throughout the United States. Ken, his wife Kristi, and their three children make their home in Columbia, SC.
