Why take Perspectives? What is this course?
Perspectives is a 15 week learning opportunity that will change the way you view the world around you and open your eyes to the heart and purpose of God. You will discover your place in His work here and all over the world. This unique experience will give you a new and deeper understanding of God's story and His desire for you to be a part of it.


Who should take Perspectives?
Anyone and everyone who wants to know the heart of God and His work in the world. 
(Recommended for high school and older) 

When and where will we meet?
Our class meets Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm starting from September 6th - December 20th at Redmond Assembly, 16001 NE 95th St., Redmond, WA 98052

3 Levels to choose from ...
Key Reading Level: This level requires about 4 hours of reading per week with no weekly written homework. There are five "Personal Reflections" assigned during the course which take about an hour to complete. Cost: $275.00

Certificate Level: This level is recommended for those who seek to gain a deeper understanding of the topics. It involves weekly homework assignments, five "Personal Reflections' and one research project due at the end of the course. This level requires about 7 hours of work per week to complete. Cost: $275.00

Credit Level: This level can be taken for undergraduate or graduate credit. This involves a mid-term and final exam plus an integrative project in additional to regular weekly assignments. This level requires about 8 hours of work per week. The credit is through Trinity International University. Cost: $525.00

Alumni Students: Perspectives Alumni are welcome to attend for free at the Key Reading Level. If you have taken Perspectives before at the Key Reading Level and wish to upgrade to Certificate Level there will be a $55.00 fee. If you wish to upgrade to Credit there will be a $325.00 fee

Early Book pick up
Our class will be reading the material for each lesson prior to class so we will arrange for you to pick your books up at least a week prior to September 6th.

      John Zumwalt is the Cross Cultural Coach for the innovative organization, Outrageous Love. After serving as a missionary among the unreached Minnan he returned to America and for over 22 years served as the founder and Director of the Missionary Training Institute, Beautiful Feet Boot Camp. He has trained over 300 Career Missionaries. He has a Doctorate of Divinity from International University for Graduate Studies. John has authored the book, Passion for the Heart of God and travels widely, preaching and holding seminars, raising up activist to go to the ends of the earth. John and his wife, Jamie, also pastor a church in a “red light district” of Oklahoma City. They have five children, Jessica, Josiah, Jael, Jewel and James.

      Exploring God's purpose for Himself: How God has been steadily unfolding a plan throughout all nations and generations to bring about His greater glory, ultimately drawing to Himself the worship of all the peoples. Passion and prayer for God's glory.

      Steve Hawthorne serves as the director of WayMakers, a prayer and mission mobilization organization in Austin, Texas. He's the author of the widely used prayer guide called Seek God for the City. After co-editing the course and the book Perspectives on the World Christian Movement in 1981, he launched “Joshua Project,” a series of research expeditions among unreached peoples in world class cities. He co-authored, with Graham Kendrick, the book Prayerwalking: Praying On-Site With Insight. He has helped leaders in numerous cities unite and sustain life-giving prayer for entire communities. With humor and seasoned wisdom, he speaks with living passion for the greater glory of Jesus. He says of his ministry, “I like to commit arson of the heart.”

      Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

      An international speaker and author, Karen Schagunn is the founder of Indestructible Daughters (indestructibledaughters.com), a ministry to equip and empower women across the globe. She is a board member and trainer with Horn of Africa Mission, mobilizing believers to reach unengaged and unreached people groups throughout Africa, Europe and the Middle East. She and her husband train missionaries and teach classes on overcoming trauma. Karen served for years as a woman's director in a diverse cultural church. She is also the author of "Indestructible Daughters”.

      Jesus shows great strategic interest in Gentiles; wise strategic focus by initiating a global mission on a few disciples among the Hebrew people. The Great Commission and the ways of God's sending in relational power. Dealing with the ideas of pluralism (all religions the same) and universalism (all persons saved).

      Rich Leatherberry has served as Missions Pastor at Bellevue Presbyterian church for 18 years. He received his MDIV from Fuller Seminary and came to Belpres in 1999. One of Rich’s main interests has been to develop local and global partnerships to equip indigenous leadership for community transformation. Rich helped found Jubilee REACH Center in southeast Bellevue. Rich has been married to his wife, Kristen, for 32 years. They have three children and one grandson.

      Nan served with her family in Indonesia with Mission Aviation Fellowship (2004-2008). Since her return, she has been an instructor for Women at the Well, a bible study of Bellevue Presbyterian Church. Nan serves on the board of Eastside Academy, a high school for children in crisis. She lives at home with her husband and three extraordinary sons.

      How Shall They Hear?

      Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

      Robroy Ranger is an Australian who is the Superintendent for the Oregon conference of the Free Methodist Church. Their mission is to become a multicultural group UNITED around JESUS to ignite a SPIRIT-fueled movement. His primary passion is to breathe Christ in the world and set people free. As well as leading Redmond AG, he has lead Business As Mission projects, which are sources for amazing “God stories”. He will draw from his many and varied experiences around the world - from singing for the Queen of England to being in the mud with children in Haiti. He is an innovative presenter clearly communicating the gospel with history, accuracy of context, and fun.

Explore the intricacy of identification in another culture. Explore the even greater complexity of presenting identity with integrity in a globalized, terrorized, pluralized world. Recognizing the dynamics of social structure in order to initiate growing movements of ongoing communication throughout the society.

      Dr. Paul Gupta is a missionary statesman who has served the nation of India in building transformational leaders to disciple the nation. He serves as the Chairman and President of Hindustan Bible Institute & College, India and the President of HBI Global Partners in the USA. He has served as a national missionary in mobilizing and envisioning the church in India and around the world. Dr. Gupta completed his Master of Divinity in 1980 from Talbot Seminary, and his Master of Theology and Ph.D in Intercultural Studies from Fuller Seminary, in 1992 In 1985 he pioneered a church planting movement called the Indian National Evangelical Church (INEC) that currently has 844 indigenous pastors who have planted 10,118 churches in 23 states of India and in Nepal. In 1987 Paul enabled a movement called "the Council on National Service" (CONS) that is committed to discipling the whole nation by envision, mobilizing and equipping the Church to disciple India. In 1985 India had less than 114,000 and after envisioning and mobilizing the local churches with a strategy of saturation church planting, it is estimated that India has over 750,000 churches presently. Paul Gupta has been honoured as the Alumnus of the year for 2005 by Fuller Seminary, California, USA In March 2006, Dr. Paul Gupta co-authored a book entitled, “Breaking Tradition to accomplish vision” with Dr. Sherwood Lingenfelter. He has co-authored a series of books titled "Unfinished Task" for the states of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh. In addition to Dr.Gupta’s teaching at HBI & College, he regularly teaches for the U.S. center for World Missions (Venture Missions) in their perspective courses; and the Haggai Institute of leadership development. Bobby and Linnet Gupta are married for 41 years and are blessed with three children.

      The Spontaneous Multiplication of Churches

      Look beyond institutional features of churches to understand churches as dynamic movements of Christ Himself being followed. Such a view of churches as organic, living things opens up the practicality of seeing them multiply rapidly as movements and also flourish in society bearing the fruit of social transformation. Churches as counter-communities, acting as salt and light, bringing change to their cultures. How movements multiply by connecting with entire families and larger social structures.

      Ed and Rachel have two teenage sons and live in Arizona. Their ministry, Tsunami Unleashed, focuses on helping bring clarity to believers on how to live purpose "full" lives for Jesus. In addition, they provide a simple path to exponential discipleship, leadership, and church reproduction. Currently, the Lord has them building Tsunami Unleashed. The vision is to see 1 billion people across the global mobilized, equipped and impacted for Jesus. This will leverage the technological infrastructure that exists (everything internet) in an effective way that draws people from the cold medium of the web into hot relationship with believers (in-person) and Jesus. It will require an open-handed approach to all interactions and resources. They don't care who gets credit as long as the work is done giving glory to God through loving obedience to Jesus Christ. They seek to partner with any believer or organization who desires to do "something" for the Lord, not matter how small.

      The hope of planting churches among unreached peoples. How the breakthrough of the gospel in an unreached people requires that the gospel be "de-Westernized". The difference of contextualizing the message, the messenger and the movement. Distinguish and appreciate people movements, church planting movements and insider movements.

      Pam is currently the Co-Editor of Perspectives 5th Edition and a member of All Nations. She lived in Central Asia for ten years, where she planted churches among three people groups, two of whom are Muslim. She earned an MA and PhD in Linguistics (i.e. Bible Translation) from the University of Texas at Arlington. She has published numerous books and articles in missions. She is most well known as “The Stick Figure Lady” for her popular book “Stick Figures Save the World.”

Simplifying your lifestyle as if in "war-time". Exploring the practical ways of pursuing God's purpose. Business and mission. Short-term mission. Welcoming international visitors. Wisdom in working with local churches and in partnership with Christians in different parts of the world.

      John Kim and his wife, Sol, and their three kids, Ethan, Audrey, and Emma, make up the Kim family. John and Sol have been married 25 years. John is a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin and graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary with a Master’s in Theology (Th.M). John has been in ministry for over 30 years as a student pastor, missions pastor, children’s pastor, college pastor, lead pastor, church planter, and other various capacities. John also has been a leader in commercial property management (10 years) and recently has pioneered a Food Truck business/ministry model here in Seattle. When John isn’t trying to change the world, he loves to smoke Texas style BBQ, hike, run, and bike around the trails in Seattle. He is a consummate foodie, so you might see him at a hole in the wall munching on the best eats in and around the city.
