You are invited to join a unique discipleship journey! Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is an adventure of a lifetime that will give you a fresh and deeper understanding of God's story and His desire for you to be a part of it. Perspectives is a course of vision - a vision that will change the way you view the world and help mobilize and equip you to live a life of passion and purpose as Jesus did.

We will hear 15 outstanding speakers as they share from their experiences and teach on the biblical, historical, cultural & strategic perspectives of God's plan for the nations.  Hear how God has been and continues to work throughout the world. Learn more about God's kingdom and His glory. Find out what your part is in this exciting movement to make Jesus' disciples from all nations.

Is this course mainly for those interested in missions?

Absolutely not! This is a course for the Church. The goal is to bring our individual lives into a closer alignment with God's purpose. To join God in His story. If you want to grow and be challenged—want more vision, direction and eternal impact to come from your lifeyou will love this class!

      Dave Shive is a 1968 graduate of the Washington Bible College, a 1972 graduate of Capital Bible Seminary with a Th.M. in New Testament Studies, and a 1994 graduate of Baltimore Hebrew University with an M.A. in Biblical Literature. Dave has spent the past 47 years in full time ministry as a pastor, Christian school director, and college professor. He currently serves with Frontier Ventures (formerly the US Center for World Mission) as a missions mobilizer for the northeast region of the United States. Dave lives in Catonsville, MD, with Kathy, his wife of 52 years. Dave and Kathy have three married children, Dan, Mike, and Becky. They are also the proud grandparents of 9 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.

      Your Kingdom Come

      Exploring God's purpose regarding evil: How God has accomplished a defeat of evil powers in order to open a season of history in which the nations can freely follow Christ. The kingdom of God as the destiny of all history. Christ's mission seeks a hindering of evil to bring about a sign of the coming peace of the kingdom of God. Our prayers contend with evil in order to bring about the transformation of society with Christ's kingdom in view.

      Rev. James Cha was born in Korea, but grew up here in the US. He studied electrical engineering at Cornell University, and worked ten years as an engineer. In 2000 he and his wife, Faith, took their 3 kids to Central Asia, where they served ten years as church planting missionaries with Pioneers. They are now back in the US reaching out to the Muslims in the Washington, DC area. James & Faith are Washington DC Area Coordinators for Crescent Project. They also direct ESL ministry in Leesburg, VA. They have three adult children and one grandchild. James recently published a book about their missions journey - Fear Not: Living a Life of No Regrets.       Sean and his wife Meredith have spent the last decade traveling the entire Continental U.S. casting mission vision with Traveling Team. They have a two year old daughter named Haven. Sean graduated from the University of Arkansas with a degree in Communication. He has short term exposure in India and Indonesia. Sean continues to travel nation wide speaking to students and churches. When not speaking he serves alongside The Traveling Team Leadership as the Director of Ministry Advancement. He is working on a Masters Degree from Reformed Theological Seminary.

      The first followers of Jesus: obedient in costly, foundational ways. The climactic act of the book of Acts is the freeing of the gospel to be followed by Gentiles without Jewish traditions as a requirement.       Boyce College Professor, Louisville KY

      John is the son of missionary parents and missionary grandparents, born in Colombia South America. He grew up in Kansas City, Missouri obtaining his Bachelor’s Degree in Education in 1985. Married that same year to Shari they have two boys, Seth and Andy. John and Shari served with the IMB from 1991 to 2013, primarily in North Africa. By the grace of God and with great team, they helped to initiate work with three unreached people groups; they built teams and helped develop a relief and development agency so the work could be done in a restricted access nation. John earned his MDiv from SBTS in 1990 and his PhD from the Billy Graham School at SBTS in Missions in 2011. John teaches in the area of global studies and is the Department Coordinator for Global Studies at Boyce College in Louisville KY.

      Converge Heartland, Sioux Falls SD

      Jim Capaldo and his family spent 11 years serving in a pioneering church planting movement among the Tuvan tribe of Siberian Russia, a land where Shamanism and Buddhism have the prominent religions for centuries. Jim took a holistic approach to church planting that involved both the spiritual elements of evangelism and discipleship as well as addressing the the physical elements through community development and business as mission. Following his missionary career, Jim has served as as the Outreach and Teaching Pastors at ChangePoint Church in Anchorage, AK and Central Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. He currently serves as the District Executive Minister of the Converge Heartland District (formerly known as Baptist General Conference) working to see a gospel-centered church bringing transformation to every Heartland community. The Converge Heartland District spans from ND to KS, Jim and his family are based in Sioux Falls, SD.

He is currently finishing his doctorate degree in global missions at the Southern Baptist Seminary where he is a teacher assistant. He is the area mobilizer for the Perspectives course on the Christian World Movement. But more importantly, Jose loves Jesus and has a passion for making disciples of all nations. But the most important of Jose Martinez, is that he loves the Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart and works so that people from all over the earth worship and obey Jesus Christ.

      How Shall They Hear?

      Culture and intercultural communication of the gospel. Communicating the gospel with relevance at the worldview level helps avoid syncretism (blending of cultural error with God?s truth) and also enables powerful movements of the gospel. Sensitive missionaries will look for ways that God has preserved or prepared people to hear the gospel, often finding redemptive analogies for God's truth.

      Vicky spent 33 years working in innovative and creative environments from multimillion dollar technology deployments, alliances with technical luminaries such as Steve Jobs, Nicholas Negroponte's MIT media lab, Stanford Research Institute (SRI) and The Walt Disney Studios to entrepreneurial startup businesses. Her primary focus in these organizations included leadership and business development, strategic planning, research and development, innovation and creativity. She became "known" in these organizations for her heart for the Gospel through her daily walk in these high paced and demanding environments. Her passion for Christ took her on a 30-year journey of adventure as she walked on burning coals, assisted with eye clinics in Mexico, participated in medical relief efforts in Bolivia, planted pioneer businesses in Asia and Africa, came face to face with the persecuted church in Orissa, and served widows in the rainforest of Panama. Now she is committed full time to taking the Gospel to the nations through Pioneer Business Planting, building Kingdom businesses, and gobalization!

      John Lambert is the founder of SpreadTheFLame, a missions mobilization and support ministry. He has served as the former Executive Pastor of Liberty Church, a thriving multi-site church with a strong global missions focus. He is also served as the Executive Director of Liberty Network International, a missional focused network of ministers both in the U.S. and overseas. Prior to this role, John served as missions strategist and trainer with Frontier Ventures (formerly known as the U.S. Center for World Mission USCWM and the Frontier Mission Fellowship FMF). John has also served with his family as missionaries to the Isan and Northern Thai people. He has traveled extensively and continues to travel with an emphasis on supporting indigenous leaders. John is a writer for Mission Frontiers magazine and is a part of SEANET (South and Southeast Asia Network), a group of scholars and missions practitioners working to accelerate Gospel breakthrough among Buddhist peoples.
